Shoshana Walfish (1988, Montreal, Canada)

Shoshana Walfish è una pittrice che vive e lavora tra Bruxelles e Montréal. La sua pratica pittorica si fonda su una ricerca strutturata che esplora la costruzione di mondi visivi per affrontare concetti astratti, come la relazione tra il corpo, la teoria queer e la fenomenologia. La ricerca fornisce l’impianto teorico della sua pittura, che poi si sviluppa in maniera intuitiva cercando di astrarre e collassare i confini tra primo piano e sfondo, reale e surreale, giocando con i canoni classici dello spazio e della carne, e mettendo in relazione corporeità e simbolismo.

 

Lavorando per serie, utilizza colore, gestualità e la stessa materialità della pittura per rendere manifesta la presenza e approfondire cosa significhi abitare un corpo.

 

Walfish ha conseguito un BFA presso la Concordia University di Montréal, Canada, e un diploma in pittura tradizionale presso la Florence Academy of Art (Italia). Il suo lavoro è stato recentemente esposto presso la Galerie Nicolas Robert (Montréal), Marian Cramer (Amsterdam), Kasteel D’Ursel (Anversa) e in una mostra personale al Jewish Museum of Belgium (Bruxelles). Ha inoltre esposto presso Beige Gallery (Bruxelles), Brussels Art Nouveau and Design Festival (Bruxelles) e Birch Contemporary (Toronto).
