From 4 June to 12 September 2026, ABC-ARTE presented Tempo Continuo at its Milan venue, ABC-ARTE ONE OF, the first solo exhibition of Gastone Biggi in Milan, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni and developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Gastone Biggi.
The exhibition brought together previously unseen works from six key cycles in the artist’s research: the Continui, Variabili, Eventi – Guerra e Pace, the New York series, the Puntocromie and the Fleurs. The display connected different moments of Biggi’s practice, highlighting the continuity of a research grounded in the relationship between colour, light, rhythm and perception.
From the rigorous abstraction of the Continui to the return of colour in the Variabili, and from the urban dimension of New York to the political tension of the Eventi, Biggi’s painting moved across languages and transformations while maintaining a constant investigation into the nature of the image. Tempo Continuo thus presented a body of research developed over decades, in which time itself became a material of painting.

THE RHYTHM OF PAINTING

In the Continui and Variabili, Biggi investigates painting as a system of rhythm, repetition and variation. Between the rigor of black and white and the freedom of colour, the surface becomes a field in constant transformation.

For Flaminio Gualdoni, Gastone Biggi’s practice is distinguished by a radical inner coherence: a form of painting that continually renews itself without ever abandoning its essential core. Through rhythm, colour, light and the structure of the surface, Biggi transforms painting into a field of inquiry into time and perception, developing over more than fifty years a language that is rigorous, autonomous and profoundly contemporary.
