Antonio Ovejero

Antonio Ovejero (Valencia, 1999) is a Spanish artist whose painting explores the relationship between memory, identity, and material culture, transforming objects and images from the domestic sphere into scenes suspended between reality and fiction. Porcelain, jewellery, textiles, ornaments, and accessories become protagonists of theatrical and highly visual compositions, in which the everyday acquires personal and collective meanings. Through a figurative practice characterised by glossy surfaces, ornamental details, and a sophisticated interplay of reflections, Ovejero investigates the ways in which objects can become repositories of stories, emotions, and memories.

After graduating in Fine Arts in 2022 and completing a Master’s Degree in Artistic Production in 2023 at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Facultat de Belles Arts de Sant Carles, Ovejero has developed a practice in which painting, photography, and image construction continuously intersect. His compositions often originate from the collection and staging of objects connected to family memory or encountered in markets, shops, and everyday environments. These objects are photographed and digitally reworked before being translated onto the painted surface. Their original function is thus suspended, allowing them to become symbolic elements that evoke both a personal world and a broader shared cultural memory.

His major solo exhibitions include Mujeres sin color: Relatos sobre el luto (2022), LADIES: Pictorial retrospective of the everyday scene from the second half of the 20th century (2023), Fugacity (2024), Vestidas de laca y carmín and Si todo fuera de terciopelo (2025), as well as a solo project at the Centro Cultural Las Claras of Fundación Cajamurcia in Murcia. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including Art Madrid, Berlin Art Fair, Obertura Carabanchel, and MARTE.

Throughout his career, Ovejero has received several awards and grants, including the Cervezas Alhambra Award for Best Exhibition at Abierto Valencia in 2025, the PAMPAM24 Artistic Production Scholarship awarded by Fundación Hortensia Herrero, and the First Prize for Interactive Emerging Art from Infinity Art Gallery and MARTE. In 2026, he participates in Berlin Art Fair and Art Madrid. He is currently an artist-in-residence at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, where he is developing ¿Dónde irá el brillo de tus cosas?, a research project focused on the role of domestic objects in the construction of individual and collective memory.
