Bertozzi & Casoni è una società fondata nel 1980 a Imola da Giampaolo Bertozzi e da Stefano Dal Monte Casoni. Formatisi entrambi nell’ambito della ceramica faentina, i due artisti eleggono a proprio campo di azione questo medium, spesso relegato ai margini della scena artistica contemporanea.
Bertozzi & Casoni is a company founded in 1980 in Imola by Giampaolo Bertozzi (Borgo Tossignano, Bologna, 1957) and Stefano Dal Monte Casoni (Lugo di Romagna, Ravenna, 1961 – Imola, Bologna, 2023). Having both trained in the field of ceramics in Faenza, the two artists chose this medium—often relegated to the margins of the contemporary art scene—as their primary field of action. Protagonists of relentless experimentation, over the years they developed an original and recognizable vision, producing works that are always poised between irony and a critique of consumerism, between doubt and hyperrealism, between splendor and reflection on decay. Languages and themes develop within their research that give rise to "contemplations of the present". The reflection on human transience, on the concept of the ephemeral and the impermanence of existence, is expressed in large-scale installations, accumulations of bones, the vanitas series, cleared tables, trays with leftover food, and clods of earth containing macabre artifacts. Trash, decay, and the products and waste of contemporary consumer society—including artistic and cultural ones—are often presented accompanied not by humans, but by animals: irreverent survivors, witnesses to our society, and bearers of hope. The formal language is hypertrophic and splendid, the capacity for mimesis spectacular, and the combinations unexpected and destabilizing. Wonder and astonishment guide the viewer into this "contemplation of the present" and induce reflection. Critics, museums, and leading national and international art galleries take an interest in their work.
